Play Half-Life in Your Browser

WebXash runs the open-source Xash3D-FWGS engine (a GoldSource reimplementation) in WebAssembly. It ships no game content: you select your own game folder, the engine reads it locally, and the game runs in the tab. This page is a signpost, not a storefront: we tell you what the project is, how long it takes to load, and what's likely to get in your way. Nothing here is hosted by us. The game belongs to its publisher.

We don't host the game. This button leaves our site.

Before you click — about load time

The open-source engine loads quickly, but you must point it at your own legally-owned game folder before anything plays. Setup takes a few minutes.

Multiplayer and friends

[ONLINE]

Multiplayer works through community-run WebSocket servers — expect small, volunteer-hosted lobbies.

Known issues and rough edges

  • Folder picking relies on browser file-access APIs — Chrome/Edge work best.
  • Mobile is impractical: no touch controls and the folder step is desktop-only.
  • Multiplayer needs a community server's WebSocket address, entered by hand.

Other browser projects worth a look

Not the same game, but the same "I want to play something like this in a tab" feeling.

  • Call of Duty: Zombies — A Wolfenstein-style PICO-8 demake of the classic wave-survival zombie mode, made by one fan. Details
  • Halo — A fan-made Game Boy Color demake of the 2001 campaign — top-down, chiptune, and playable in a tab. Details

Both are unofficial community projects. Same rules: nothing hosted by us, use your own judgement on the destination site.

Frequently asked questions

Is this version of Half-Life made by the publisher?

No — WebXash is an unofficial fan project. We don't host any game files and don't endorse it. Whether a specific community build is lawful where you live isn't something we can rule on for you — check what the rights holder says about fan projects in your country.

Do I need to download or install anything?

The point of a browser version is that you don't. If a page asks you to install a browser extension, a launcher or a game client to play something that claims to be in-browser, close the tab and find another link.

Why does a site ask for a survey or my email?

Some community projects run ad-network or survey walls to stay online. We can't control that. Don't enter payment details, and don't reuse a real password anywhere.

Does it work offline?

No. Browser projects stream from the project's own server, which means they stop working if that project goes offline or changes domain. That's why we keep the last-checked date on the card.

Can I put this game on my own site?

Linking here is fine. Copying assets, artwork or game files is not — this directory is for outbound links only, not redistribution.
